Announcing the arrival of Samuel Patrick Iverson! We are so excited that he has finally come!
Here are the key stats:
Due Date: 4 March 2011
Born: 26 February 2011 (6 days early) at 10:37am
Weight: 7 lbs. 15 oz.
Length: 21 inches
Total time in labor: 6 hours
Total time at hospital before being born: 4 hours
Amount of pain medication Jenn took: None!
Health of baby: Perfect
Health of mother: Perfect
Hair: He has less than either Henry or Ellis, and it has a decidedly reddish tint to it.
Nose: Not quite as Allred-Griffin-ish as H & E's are. A bit more like mine, we think.
First-name Namesakes: Samuel Smith (check out the link if you have time-it's worth the read), Samuel from the Old Testament, Sam Nephi's brother, Samuel the Lamanite.
Middle-name Namesake: Patrick is my Grandmother Whitesides' maiden name, and I've always wanted to honor the strong Patrick family.
What we will call him: Sam (Ben's preference), Sammy (Jenn's preference, while he's little), Samuel (when he's in trouble)
I'll forgo the blow-by-blow account of Sam's birth because it all went surprisingly according to plan, which was: contractions start, they get really bad, they get even worse, her water breaks and a few pushes later he is born. That's pretty much how it all happened.
Before I let you look at more pictures (no skipping ahead, cheaters!) I just need to mention 3 things:
1. Jenn did an absolutely incredible job managing the pain and doing this completely naturally. I even overheard the nurses and the midwife all commenting to each other on how well she did. I have to admit that I was nervous when Jenn told me she wanted to go without the epidural (and I'm not even the one that has to go through the pain!), but she was a real trooper and I would totally do it again. To be honest, for me this was by far the easiest of the three births. And, I think that Jenn might say the same thing.
2. Part of what made it easier was having an incredible midwife who coached Jenn through the whole process. I really liked having a midwife there throughout the process rather than an OB/GYN who pops in from time to time to see how she's doing.
3. I'm so thankful that there were no complications this time around. Both Henry and Ellis had heart rate issues during their births which caused the birth to be really rushed (in Henry's case, a C-section, in Ellis', forceps). Sam's birth was actually really calm, as there was no rush to get the baby out at all. It was incredible to be able to really soak in the true miracle that birth is this time around.
And now, I present Samuel Patrick:

The experienced big brother. Or, as he puts it, the big, big brother.
The newly-appointed big brother. He's already a natural at the role, however: at the hospital today he tried to share his chocolate chip cookie with Sam.
That's a lot of boys for one house. Let the fun begin!

Yay, Congratulations! I'm so excited for you. A house full of boys is a little chaotic at times, but you'll enjoy it. Good luck adjusting to 3 little one, just enjoy the little moments.
Oh I just love him! Congrats Congrats! We are so excited for you guys! Too bad we wont get to see him in person for awhile so you will have to keep us updated with lots of pictures! That is hilarious that Ellis tried to share his cookie, that just shows how much he already loves Samuel, he is trying to share. Jenn, you look beautiful!
Congratulations!
So happy for you! So proud of Jen for going natural. I bet she'll find that she'll have a quicker recovery as a result. He's gorgeous and so lucky to come to such a fabulous family! He already looks very alert and ready to start watching General Conference and singing solos in church like his brothers!
Congratulations! Samuel is perfect (no surprise there)...and Jenn is amazing and beautiful (but we all knew that already)! We love all of you so much and can't wait to meet Samuel in person.
Congratulations! Sam is beautiful!
Oh, he definitely belongs to your family! Congratulations! And Jenn, you are a super-mom; in case you didn't already know. :)
Jenn! These pictures of your boys with their new little brother are so precious. I'm so glad that he's finally here and that the birth went so well. Congratulations to you and Ben on your beautiful family!
Since he's named after so many people, shouldn't you add Samuel Adams to the list? Since he was born in Boston and all. Also, Griff, that is the most beautiful post-birth mother picture I've ever seen. Seriously, you look gorgeous. Congratulations!
Congrats! This was an awesome surprise to find in blog land this morning. Well Done Jenn, so glad it all went so smoothly! You guys are both amazing parents!
Wow Jenn--Congrats! That's a handsome little guy you brought into the world. So glad it all went well for you both. If anyone can do a natural childbirth--it's you.

What fabulous news! We are all so excited for you guys. Our Ethan is thrilled that the Iverson's had their baby on his birthday- yet another quirky thing the Jen's and Ben's have in common. AND the baby has red hair? That is too much! So proud of you for choosing the midwife/no meds route. Isn't it funny how it IS better? Don't knock it till you try it, right? Here's to healthy babies and moms and families with all boys!
Congratulations--he's gorgeous! And you look great, Jenn! May you all get some sleep this week!`

what a great post by the Daddy, how wonderful, and how awesome to experience a meds free birth.
sweet pictures and congratulations!
To me Sam(my) looks like Henry and Ellis. What a sweetheart. Good work on the natural delivery Jenn. I'll admit I cried a little when I read this post (out of happiness of course!!!) because I do have a soft spot in my heart for little boys. CONGRATS. Let me know when I can have the big boys over...
Congrats what a cute little family
